Can you make a security gate for a shop doorway?
Yes. Shop and unit doorways are regular work: a hinged steel gate in its own frame, fixed into the reveal, locking into the frame rather than into the surrounding brick. We measure the reveal, check what the fixings will actually be going into and build the gate and frame as one unit so the strength is in the fabrication.
Do grilles have to look like a prison window?
No, and they should not. Bar spacing, section size and the way a grille is set into the reveal all change how heavy it reads from the street. On a shopfront we will usually recommend something that sits inside the reveal and is finished in a colour that matches the frame, so it disappears in daylight and does its job at night.
Will my insurer accept it?
That is between you and your insurer, but we can build to a specification. If they have written to you with requirements, or you have a policy wording that specifies bar sizes, spacing or fixing methods, forward it and we will build to what it says. What we will not do is claim compliance with a standard we have not been told about.
Can grilles be removable for fire escape?
Yes, and where a window is a designated escape route it needs to be. Hinged and internally releasable options exist for exactly this reason. Tell us which openings are escape routes at the survey and we will specify accordingly rather than fixing a solid grille across something somebody may have to get out of.
Do you secure yards and side access?
Yes, that is a good part of this work: lockable steel gates across side access, yard gates, and closing off the gap between a building and a boundary wall. Anywhere somebody can get out of sight of the street is worth doing first, because that is where things actually go missing from.
How quickly can you get security work done?
If a premises has been broken into and is stood open, tell us on the phone and we will treat it that way. Made to measure steel is not an off the shelf product, so we will talk you through what can be done immediately to make it secure and what timescale the permanent gate or grille runs to.
